"Thoughts for the Journey"

Picture
"By humility and the fear of the Lord, are riches and honor and life."  Proverbs 22:4
The fear of the Lord!  I love this concept.  You may have heard me preach or speak on this topic before.  The phrase is used throughout Scripture.  It is a phrase that seems to be lost in our 21st Century Christianity.  While we sing about "How Great is our God", and our "Awesome God", have we really connected to the holiness and omnipotence of who God is!  That is what it is to have the fear of God.  And when you are in fear of God, humility is the only attitude you can have.  In the presence of God, you cannot say, "Hey Look at Me"!  No instead, like the prophet Isaiah, in the presence of God all you can say is "Woe is Me"!  When you and I see God for who He really is, and a true fear and reverence for God sets in, then, God can use us, and bless us with the blessings promised by Solomon in this proverb.  Within the context of the church, when a body of believers grasps the "otherness" of God, and stops trying to perform church, and instead let's God have control, then, growth and health occur.  Acts 9:31 says, "Then the churches throughout all Judea, Galilee, and Samaria had peace and were edified.  And walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, they were multiplied."
The fear of God is not just something you say.  The fear of God is a verb....it is something you do!  Let's reclaim the fear of God in 2017!
